VC59 Flora Project

The N.W.N.U. is playing a leading role in the preparation of this collaborative publication. It will provide a snapshot of the mosses, liverworts, lichens, macro-fungi and algae, as well as of vascular plants, in the area between the Mersey and the Ribble, at the turn of the century. In doing so, it will provide naturalists, conservationists and planners with an essential means of assessing environmental impact and consequential change in one of the most ecologically diverse parts of Britain. The work is intended, not only for present-day naturalists, but also as a base-line census on which future generations will be able to build.
